Position Highlights
The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy (College) seeks a motivated and ambitious professional to manage our efforts to raise significant levels of philanthropic support for the UArizona College of Pharmacy. The Director of Development will report to the Dean, UArizona College of Pharmacy and Senior Vice President, Development, UArizona Foundation. This position will be responsible for managing a donor portfolio of $1M+ and works directly with major gift prospects to secure gifts of $50,000 or more to further the goals and objectives the College. This lead development officer position is responsible for all aspects of the College's Alumni and Development efforts. This position is a member of the Philanthropy Alumni & Engagement Program (PAE) and subject to joint management by the University of Arizona Foundation as specified in the Amended and Restated Development Services and Asset Management Agreement dated July 2, 2021.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advise the Dean and President of the Foundation or designee on all matters related to development activities within the College.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with the College leadership, faculty, board members, alumni, volunteers, donors, and financial professionals.
  • Develop and execute strategic, personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for an assigned portfolio of 50-70 major-gift ($50,000 level or greater) donor prospects (individual, corporate, and foundation) through personal meetings (in-person or Zoom), letters, phone calls, email and other methods.
  • Travel, occasional overnight stays, and some evening/weekend work is necessary to cultivate and solicit donor prospects.
  • After an initial 3-6 month on-boarding period, execute an agreed upon metric of at least 100 current or prospect donor visits and the successful closure of 15+ major/principal gift proposals per year, with an expectation of $1M+ raised after the initial on-boarding period (with incremental increases after the first year).
  • Represent College, the UA and PAE at public events, including delivering remarks.
  • In partnership with Dean and PAE create an annual fundraising plan to further the mission of the College.
  • Drive the Coit College's Fuel Wonder Campaign strategy and raise funds to meet the dollar goals and fundraising priorities developed between the College, PAE, and UArizona Leadership.
  • Implement the annual campaign fundraising priorities for the College.
  • Design and manage solicitation and stewardship plans in Lynx to support fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensure all contributions are properly documented and handled in accordance with the University of Arizona Gift Policy.
  • Work with College and PAE Marketing and Communications colleagues to development print and online development materials related to the assigned areas.
  • Partners with, and effectively utilizes, the development professionals and resources of the PAE, including campus-based development teams, the offices of Discovery, Regional Development; Gift Planning; Annual Giving (telephone, direct-mail, and e-solicitation services); Leadership Giving; Alumni & Constituent Engagement: Marketing and Communications; Prospect Development; Financial Services; Information Services; and Foundation Relations.
  • Utilizes the common systems, policies and procedures adhered to by PAE team members.
  • Work within all established University of Arizona and University of Arizona Foundation guidelines and policies.
  • Management of development operations support staff including mentorship, performance management, feedback and coaching.
  • Coordination, management and responsibility for volunteers and/or advisory board members
  • Plan and lead donor-centered College events; homecoming, alumni gatherings, and scholarship awards ceremonies.
  • Assist the dean in cultivating and supporting the national advisory board and subcommittees. Plan and attend board meetings.
  • Manage the newly established Alumni Council.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and follow all Federal, UArizona, College, and PAE policies and procedures including scholarship and financial aid polices as well as the University of Arizona Gift Policy.
  • Experience developing and executing large fundraising plans.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and colleagues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the mission, strategic plan, and case for philanthropic support.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related work experience, including three (3) years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license upon employment and ability to drive accordingly to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
